Ever heard of IAMA, the Independent Aircraft Modifier Alliance? If you haven’t you should get to know the organization. Eclipse Technics, Envoy Aerospace, Etihad Engineering and Lufthansa Technik have long recognized the importance of Supplemental Type Certificates (STC) to the aviation industry. Not only did this vanguard of aviation and aerospace leaders understand the demands of the ecosystem, they acknowledged the need for best practices, and in early April of 2019, IAMA was launched. Advocates on behalf of independent modifiers, the alliance is a bridge between them, airlines, lessors, manufacturers and aviation authorities. They represent a truly authoritative voice on STC quality.
Eclipse Global Connectivity CEO, Marc Pinault, is the alliance’s first chairman, with the kind of aviation ecosystem knowledge only gained through years of experience. “IAMA is a new organization advocating for the highest quality STCs, while developing standards and best practices to support its membership in pursuing successful STC projects. Since inception, our working groups have developed a Rulebook, written a number of important white papers, and endeavoured to support the membership and airlines through the pandemic with our Crisis Catalogue.”
The main objectives of the Independent Aircraft Modifier Alliance are to agree to common standards for the documentation and quality of Supplemental Type Certificates; to establish an available, secure documentation platform for airline customers and aircraft owners using STCs; and to inform the relevant public and expert communities about the advantages of STC-approved solutions.
“Once the pandemic essentially shutdown the aviation industry, IAMA quickly moved to host Virtual Think Thank (IVTT) sessions,” said Eclipse Technics’ sales director, and active alliance member, Patrick Gindre. “These online sessions are a great example of cooperation, where members and non-members discuss technical needs and offer-up potential solutions to address the COVID-19 crisis we are all experiencing. The alliance’s goal is to help airlines ensure the airworthiness of aircraft that have been parked for long periods.”
